Three-Dimensional agent-based model of fish collective behaviour using topological interaction

چکیده
This paper presents a novel 3D agent-based model of fish collective behaviour based on topological interaction. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first 3D model that implements topological interaction. Despite the fact that the topological interaction was proposed based on the observation of collective behaviour of bird flock [1], simulations show that our model also displays realistic collective patterns of fish school as seen in nature. We also observe the automatic transition of different collective patterns, which is a natural phenomenon but failed to show in many previous agent-based fish school models. Bio-inspired Practicalities: Collective Behaviour using Passive Neighbourhood Sensing
Implementing collective behaviour in cooperative multi-agent systems requires several practical constraints to be addressed. In some environments, communication bandwidth is a critical constraint which may compromise the intended cooperative behaviour. This paper introduces a bio-inspired model which invokes collective behaviour in a multi-agent system using passive sensing without any explicit...
متن کاملFish in a ring: spatio-temporal pattern formation in one-dimensional animal groups.
In this work, we study the collective behaviour of fish shoals in annular domains. Shoal mates are modelled as self-propelled particles moving on a discrete lattice. Collective decision-making is determined by information exchange among neighbours. Neighbourhoods are specified using the perceptual limit and numerosity of fish. Fish self-propulsion and obedience to group decisions are described ...
متن کاملCollective behaviour in vertebrates: a sensory perspective
Collective behaviour models can predict behaviours of schools, flocks, and herds. However, in many cases, these models make biologically unrealistic assumptions in terms of the sensory capabilities of the organism, which are applied across different species. We explored how sensitive collective behaviour models are to these sensory assumptions. Specifically, we used parameters reflecting the vi...

The aim of this paper is to consider what constitutes agent-based modelling (ABM) and how this can relate to archaeological reasoning. The development and construction of ABM models is an essential prerequisite for most archaeological reasoning. Both directly and indirectly, archaeologists are making extensive use of ideas and methods in applications that derive from archaeological, anthropolog...
متن کاملFrom individual to collective behaviour of coupled velocity jump processes: a locust example
Abstract. A class of stochastic individual-based models, written in terms of coupled velocity jump processes, is presented and analysed. This modelling approach incorporates recent experimental findings on behaviour of locusts. It exhibits nontrivial dynamics with a “phase change” behaviour and recovers the observed group directional switching. Estimates of the expected switching times, in term...
